Tips against the Theft of Bicycle Parts

Tips against the Theft of Bicycle Parts

Never simply park your bicycle somewhere without thinking. Even the place where it is parked will determine the fate of the bicycle.

Never park your bicycle in locations which show the thief how long it will be left unattended. Outside a cinema, for example, thieves can be certain that the bicycle will be left unattended until the end of the performance. It is better to secure the bicycle outside the nearest pub. The same applies to railway and bus stations.

Search for a place which is brightly lit and where there are many people. This makes it more difficult for thieves to go about their "business".

Do not park your bike outside over night if possible.

A wheel lock is not enough, even if you are only absent for a short time.

A hallway does not offer enough protection - here to the bicycle must always be locked to something.

Mark your bicycle.

Always lock your bicycle with a high-quality U-lock to another object which is at least as stable as your U-lock (a wooden garden fence is therefore not very suitable...)

The lock should not be too close to the ground as otherwise the thief might smash it open with a hammer.

The locking mechanism should always point downwards so that the thief does not have any direct access.

You should always use all of the locking devices (caps, bars etc.).

Do not leave any tools on your bicycle! Although these will be of help in the case of a flat tyre etc, they will also help the thief in his "work".

Clearance: leave as little space as possible within the shackle so that thieves do not have any contact surfaces for their tools.

When a PITLOCK front wheel locking device is installed - in conjunction with a disk brake - it must be ensured that the dropout securing device for the fork ends is state-of-the-art.

Components are also popular with thieves! Secure your wheels, seat, ahead stem and brakes with PITLOCK so that the valuable individual parts are also secured against theft.

We will be grateful to receive any additional tips from you, which we will then publish here.
